Academic Year Program

College-inspired Lifelong Learning 

Our Academic Year Program offers adults with intellectual disabilities the chance to keep learning, explore new interests, and build friendships in a supportive, college-inspired environment. The program runs September through May in four 4-week sessions, with classes on Tuesdays in person or online. Course titles and descriptions are modeled after college and university classes, using familiar terminology that helps participants talk about their educational experiences with siblings, friends, and peers. Each session includes a well-rounded class schedule adapted to support learners of all abilities. 

World Cultures
Explore people, places, and traditions from around the world. Through discussion, activities, maps, and videos, students make connections to everyday life.

Science
Discover science through hands-on experiments and interactive labs. Topics vary each semester and may include the body, weather, space, motion, animals, and more. The course ends with a Science Fair project based on student interests.

Lunch Break
In-person students may bring lunch or practice life skills by purchasing lunch on campus.

Writing and Communication
Build reading, writing, and communication skills through short texts, discussion, letters, and creative writing. The course supports comprehension, vocabulary, and self-expression for everyday life.

Fun with Math
Strengthen math skills through games and interactive activities. Topics may include money, time, measurement, shapes, fractions, and other everyday math skills while also building social communication and cooperation.

 Eligibility

Students must:

• Be 18 years old or older and have attended high school with an IEP

• Be accompanied by a support person (or parent) at all times.  

• Have an interest in continuing education post high school

• Have reliable transportation (if attending in person)
